Agricultural Education Facilities
In January of 2016 the Elgin High School Agricultural Education program was awarded $378,420 as part of the Oregon Department of Education's Career and Technical Education Revitalization Grant Program. Through use of those grant funds and others, the program was able to nearly double the total square footage of the shop, including the addition of a classroom overlooking the shop (the original classroom was down the hall) and a small engine repair lab. In addition, new tools were purchased and equipment was upgraded. An educational kit of ten engines and curriculum was purchased from Briggs and Stratton, and Mr. Bolen was sent to the Briggs and Stratton Customer Education Facility in Wisconsin for a four-day training on small engine repair instruction.
Additional grant funds from the Oregon Department of Education, Wildhorse Foundation, Oregon FFA Foundation, Elgin School District, and the Clayton and Loree Fox FFA Enhancement Foundation were leveraged to purchase other equipment, upgrade the old greenhouse, purchase a new greenhouse, and upgrade livestock show equipment for the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show and Union County Fair.
